I am so excited to share some of my favorite ways to ensure you get the most out of your bubble bath. Baths in general have become an important part of my self-care rituals. Any self-care ritual is important, but baths seemed to be the ones that relax me the most. Maybe that’s because I usually wait until everyone is asleep, and I have a quiet house. Although baths are extremely popular with kids, I think stressed adults (even more so if you’re a mom) could benefit from baths even more than kiddos can.
Baths are not only comforting but they have been proven to provide a lot of health benefits. Baths can help reduce stress, stabilize blood pressure, soothe achy muscles, help your skin, burn calories, improve your respiratory system, and help you get a better night’s sleep.
I always start preparing for a bath by keeping in mind all five senses and how to tap into them. After a long day, I want to make sure every aspect of me is relaxed and pampered. So without further ado, let’s talk bubble baths!
Touch
This first one is a given since we are going to emerge in soothing water. The trick here is to make sure the water is at the perfect temperature, this is crucial. If the water is too hot, you can be extremely uncomfortable, if it’s too cold, it’s not relaxing enough. Make sure the temperature is perfect for your liking. If you need a little extra relaxation, add some Epson salt or bath bombs, these two can add some major sparkle to your bathtime.
Smell
Whatever your favorite scent is, I recommend you use that one for your baths. Whether it’s a scented candle, essential oils we have around the house, or infused Epson salts. Smelling the perfect scent can be euphoric itself, so it stands to reason that adding it to your bathtime routine will make the experience much more enjoyable. I’ve been known to even spray some of my favorite perfume in the water, so don’t be afraid to get creative.
Sight
If you feel you need more than just basking in the beautiful bubbles, there are tons of things you can see while in the tub. You may choose to read a good book, light candles and dim the lights, or completely turn the lights off like I do sometimes. Adding flowers like rose petals or lavender flowers is also a great way to feel relaxed while having something pretty to look at. You could also use your iPad or laptop to put on a relaxing video, like a scenic view or ASMR (if you’re into that, not judging) a good bath caddy can be very helpful for this.
Hearing
I usually choose some Frederic Chopin playlist or ASMR as the background music during my bath. But feel free to make this your own. There are days when I just sit there in complete silence. It just depends on what you find relaxing. Perhaps you prefer an audiobook, there is no wrong choice here.
Taste
When it comes to food, it’s almost impossible to choose one that helps you unwind, especially if you love all food like me. My best advice is to keep it simple, not only to make it easier for you to eat but also so it’s less messy. I mean, you are in the bathroom after all. Think of it as more of a snack. My favorites for bathtime are a glass of wine, strawberries, grapes, or nuts; for those who like chocolate, that’s a great option too.
Once you’re done, make sure you moisturize, and get into some comfy pajamas. A nice relaxing bath should be part of your weekly self-care routine, preferably during the week so you have something to look forward to during the week. Just remember to make it your own, and put your twist to each of my suggestions. The point is for YOU to relax, and only you know what relaxes you. Hope you try these tips out, let me know if you do and how you feel.
XO,
Diana
