How to Know if it’s Autism

I am sure we all know that the best way to know for sure if your child is on the spectrum is by consulting a medical professional. But because I know some of us, myself included, will likely go down a rabbit hole searching in this search internet era, I thought I may help by at least pointing you in the right direction. I am not judging here, I am guilty of this as well. Whether you notice a mild symptom in your child in the middle of the night and can’t rush them to the pediatrician, or are like me and when I let my Mexican culture thought process take over and think “Well is it bad enough to have to take to the doctor?” The truth is, most of us, for whatever reason you may have, visit the internet we want answers quickly.

While you wait for the day of your child’s doctor appointment, the Center for Disease Control provides some recommendations and guidelines to help you understand a more about what your medical provider will be screening for, learn about tracking milestones, and what to do if you are concerned about your child’s development. They even visit the Milestone Tracker App and  Milestone Checklist for additional monitoring information. I found these tools helpful, especially if you are like me, and need to feel like you are doing something to help your child as soon as possible.

Another great source to help you ease some of your concerns, and possibly prepare for the potential autism diagnosis is The AutismNavigator.com. Here you can read all about Autism Spectrum Disorder, and the red flags to look out for, and if you create a free account, you can also access video courses to help you learn more about Autism Spectrum Disorder.

I look forward to hearing from you and hope these resources have helped.

XO,

Diana
